Internal Walls - Separating
Every residential flat
and apartment needs robust walls which block noise from the
adjoining units.
To achieve proper acoustic protection between apartments, a
separating wall needs to be designed with particular attention to
the resistance to sound transmission, particularly to flanking
transmission through the building elements adjoining the separating
wall. Glasswool insulation is vital in framed walls.
Advantages
Separating walls are required to provide protection from noise
by reducing airborne sound transmission between adjoining
properties. The factors that influence the potential performance of
a wall are its mass, the width of the wall and the sound absorption
properties of materials that are installed in cavities in the wall.
Glasswool products have excellent sound absorption properties and
are used widely in separating walls to enhance their ability to
reduce airborne sound transmission. They have the further advantage
of providing thermal insulation which will be of particular benefit
if there are different occupancy patterns between the joined
dwellings, or if a dwelling is attached to an unoccupied
dwelling.Knauf Insulation Products
- Premium - TP 138 is a high density faced glasswool product for
lining masonry walls to maximise acoustic resistance. - Excellent - Thermolan TP116 is a medium density batt of
glasswool with excellent sound absorption properties. This is
suitable for framed wall construction. - Good – Thermolan Classic 040 is a
lower density roll of glasswool with good sound absorption
properties.
This is suitable for framed wall construction
Knauf Insulation provide products that can be used as absorbent
layers for the control of airborne sound transmission in separating
walls.
