External Walls - Contact & Ventilated Facades
Whether internal, external or separating, insulating the walls of a building has many benefits
Insulating external walls to improve the thermal performance of a building can bring huge savings in heat loss, meaning reduced energy consumption and hence cost. Where the insulation also has moisture resisting properties, prevention of damp, especially in basement walls, is another benefit.Insulating internal and separating walls is usually undertaken to increase the acoustic performance of the wall. This leads to reduced sound transmission between separate areas of a building - whether within a building or between adjoining buildings.
Two added benefits of the insulation of internal & separating walls are:
- Reduced heat transmission from area to area, e.g. why heat an unused store-room, or unoccupied adjoining buildings?
- The sound absorption of the insulation within a framed wall or within a partition reduces the hollow sound and feel of these lightweight constructions.
